United States Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink compared russian airstrikes on Ukraine with Nazi crimes in Babyn Yar.

On July 14, 2022, Director of the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies (UCHS) Dr. Anatolii Podolskyi held a meeting-excursion for the United States Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink on the territory of National Historical and Memorial reserve Babyn Yar.

During the meeting Anatolii Podolskyi and Bridget Brink discussed not only historical context of the Babyn Yar tragedy, the Holocaust history on Ukrainian lands and mass executions of people during the Nazi occupation of Ukraine in the World War II. The conversation touched on the events of ongoing war and russian aggression against Ukraine as well. After the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, russian invaders are not only killing people and ruining buildings and infrastructure of our cities but they are also destroying our memory about the past, particularly the victims of the World War II. Thus, in March 2022, russian bombs and missiles partially destroyed memorial sites in Kyiv and Kharkiv.

The United States Ambassador to Ukraine Mrs. Bridget Brink stated during the meeting-excursion that her country has been helping Ukrainians to protect themselves from the atrocities of the russians since the very beginning of the russian invasion which she compared to the crimes of Nazis in Babyn Yar.

“My walk through Babyn Yar was a sobering reminder of the Nazi horrors committed against Jews and others, which Russian missiles made all too real again striking nearby and killing innocents,” stated the Ambassador.
