World War II on the map of Ukraine
In the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War, a unique and extremely important project was presented - the digital cartographic project "World War II on the map of Ukraine".
The Museum keeps evidence of the deaths of three million soldiers during World War II. And until now, requests are coming from different parts of the world - relatives are looking for the places of death of their ancestors. But they cannot find the indicated villages and towns on the maps. This project is designed to facilitate such a search for everyone who is interested in the history of that war on the territory of Ukraine.
As the Museum reported, work on the project lasted more than ten years. Scientists have collected data on the names of 44,596 cities and villages, their subordination and geographic location as of 1946 and 2014 — from the Second World War to the beginning of the Russo-Ukrainian war.
