New publication: How to teach about the Holocaust after 24 February 2022

insidethegatesWe are glad to share the proceedings of the working group on “How to teach about the Holocaust after 24 February 2022”. Throughout most of the summer the participants have been working on recommendations for their colleagues who already teach about the Holocaust but might need advice on what should change with regard to the ongoing russian aggression war against Ukraine. Now the text is ready for wide professional audience.

We thank all the members of the working group who invested their time and effort in this text, and also our first professional readers for their feedback.

We are also grateful to the transnational project “Learning to Remember” for making the proceedings and the preparation of this edition possible.

  • The banality of evil: from Auschwitz to Mariupol

    The YouTube channel "10 Questions to a Historian" featured an interview about the history of the Auschwitz death camp, which has become an undisputed symbol of Nazi crimes in World War II. This is the story of how some people (including educated and seemingly mentally healthy people) killed other people on a scale and systematic basis that had never been seen before. The "banality of evil" was that the virtue of loyalty turned bureaucrats into committed genocide performers.
