The Modern Russian-Ukrainian War as a Conflict of Values and Ideologies

insidethegatesOn 2 May 2024, the I.F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnic Studies hosted the VI panel discussion "The Modern Russian-Ukrainian War as a Conflict of Values and Ideologies". The event was organised by the I.F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnic Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the National Academy of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and the H.S. Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The discussion took place in two panels, each with its own moderator and a separate topic. The first panel, "The Russian-Ukrainian War in the Context of the Values of the Modern World," was moderated by Rostyslav Balaban, PhD, Leading Researcher at the Department of Political Institutions and Processes of the I.F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnic Studies. Dr Serhii Proleiev, Head of the Department of Philosophy of Culture, Ethics and Aesthetics at the H.S. Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy, started the discussion on values, intentions, and worldview with his report "Are there any value orientations left in the modern world? War as a depreciation of values". Dr Ganna Goncharenko, Associate Professor, Deputy Director of the Institute of State Security of the National Academy of the Security Service of Ukraine, raised the question of how Ukrainian legislation defines the concept of identity and what conflicts arise in this regard in her report "Ukrainian Identity in the Context of Universal Values as Basic Elements of National Security Strategies and Concepts".

The moderator of the second panel on "Value Priorities of the Warring Parties" was Volodymyr Holovko, PhD, Senior Researcher at the Department of Special Branches of Historical Science and Electronic Information Resources of the Institute of History of Ukraine. Dr Oleksandr Lysenko, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Head of the Department of Military and Historical Studies at the Institute of History of Ukraine, devoted his report to the differences between Ukraine and russia even at the level of observance of the traditions of warfare. A logical continuation of the topic of the polarity of values between the russian federation and Ukraine was the presentation by Dr Yuriy Nikolayets, Professor, Head of the Department of Political Culture and Ideology at the Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnic Studies entitled "Political Values: Conflict in the Context of the Russian-Ukrainian War".

  • (No) Children’s Stories Exhibition returned to Chernivtsi

    In May-June 2024, Chernivtsi once again invited the interactive exhibition (No) Children’s Stories. This time, it was hosted by Chernivtsi Gymnasium No. 17, and initiated by history and law teacher Varvara Bodnariuk. The students of 7-9 grades volunteered to host the exhibition and during the month of the event, they gave tours to more than 400 people, including students from their school, other schools in the city, and even the mayor of Chernivtsi and a foreign delegation from Dusseldorf (Germany) with the mayor of the city.
