Teaching social studies in the conditions of war

insidethegatesOn September 15, 2022, as part of the Adult Learners' Week, which is traditionally organized by the Department of Philosophy and Social and Humanitarian Disciplines of Zaporizhzhia Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education, an informal meeting of professionals (MeetUp) was held to discuss the problem of "Teaching social disciplines in the conditions of armed international conflict", in which 78 scientists, methodologists and practicing teachers took part.

A representative of the working group "How to talk about the Holocaust after 24.02?" Mrs. Olena Savytska could participate thanks to the invitation of the organizer of this event, a participant in many projects of UCHS, associate professor of this department, Candidate of Historical Sciences Olga Sirtsova.

Mrs. Olena Savytska, a teacher of history and law at the Voznesensky Lyceum "Insite" of the Voznesensk City Council of the Mykolaiv region, presented methodological recommendations for teachers regarding the features of teaching the history of the Holocaust after February 24, 2022, developed by the working group of the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies during this summer.

The participants of the event had a lively discussion about the appropriateness of using such terms as "Gauleiter" and "partisans" when considering the events of the russian-Ukrainian war.

We expect a digital edition of the methodological recommendations soon on the website of the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies in the "Educational Publications" section.
