Local seminars within the new project on dissemination of educational materials against antisemitism and antigypsyism

Two seminars in Kyiv on 21-23 October and 4-6 November 2016 launched the new two-year project of Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies aiming at dissemination of educational materials against antisemitism and antigypsyism for Ukrainian in-service teacher training institutions and local departments of education. It also aims to encourage cooperation and exchange between formal and informal teacher training programmes in Ukraine.
The meetings in Kyiv joined lecturers-representatives of state teacher-training institutions from all over Ukraine. We were also happy to welcome representatives of the Institute of Education Content Modernization (an institute within the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine). During three-day events the participants could exchange opinions, attend lectures and workshops, familiarize with educational materials and express their opinions on combating hatred, antisemitism and antigypsyism.
Following the launch events, local two-day seminars started on the local level, gathering history teachers and in close cooperation with in-service teacher training institutions and local departments of education. As of now such seminars took place in Vinnytsia and Bila Tserkva, planned and confirmed are seven more out of twenty that will have taken place by the end of 2017.
It is envisaged that the project will also give a possibility to gather teachers’ experience in usage of the educational materials and better evaluate the local needs and wishes for combating antisemitism, antigypsyism and other forms of hatred.
The project became possible owing to the support by the Foundation “Remembrance, Responsibility, Future” (Stiftung „Erinnerung, Verantwortung, Zukunkft“) – [http://www.stiftung-evz.de]

  • Presentation of the project "Bykivnia, Babyn Yar, Bucha - Between the massacre and memory about it".

Today, it is important not only to compare the crimes of the three dictatorial regimes, but also to explain their nature, under what circumstances there is a real possibility of mass murder and its justification. This project shows that it is possible and worthwhile to compare the two totalitarian regimes of the twentieth century without diminishing the memory of either of them, and that it is also worth analysing Ruscism in the context of communism and Nazism.
